Black gram or black lentil is known as urad dal in Hindi. In texts of ayurveda this bean is known as “MASHA”. The scientific name of Urad dal is ‘VignaMungo’.

Urad dal is unique in the plant kingdom, as it contains Essential Fatty Acids or EFA. They are so called because our bodies cannot produce it even though it is an essential nutrient for the human body, especially for the human brain.
